Data segmentation

Data segmentation controls which employees, events, and related records a user can see in Workflow. It allows organizations to restrict visibility based on organizational structure, location, or other defined criteria.

This feature is commonly used by organizations that manage multiple business units, subsidiaries, or client populations and need to prevent users from accessing data outside their assigned segment.

How data segmentation works

When data segmentation is enabled, Workflow filters search results, dashboards, reports, and drill-down access so users only see data that matches their assigned data segment. Segmentation applies to both employee records and work events and is enforced consistently across the application.

Data segmentation affects system behavior globally. Once enabled, it changes how data is displayed and accessed across many areas of Workflow.

Access and configuration

Data segmentation is not enabled by default. Enabling and configuring this feature requires preparation, appropriate privileges, and coordination with Rival Support.

Use the topics in this section to understand eligibility, preparation steps, and the system behavior changes that occur when data segmentation is configured.
